19th Annual Open Weekend

Railway and Miniature Steam Rally

North Scarle, Lincoln

19th / 20th September 2020

Dear All

The LDMES will again be holding an open weekend on the above dates.  Once again we extend a warm welcome to old friends, and newcomers, to join us in what has become a successful and very enjoyable weekend.  The event will take place at the site of the Society’s permanent miniature railway track at North Scarle, Lincolnshire which is approximately 10 miles from both Lincoln and Newark.  There is good access from the A1 and from the A46/A57. For those of you who use computer mapping or with satellite navigation, the postcode is LN6 9ER.  Please note this is not a postal address – it is a field.  Your booking form should be returned to the address shown at the foot of the enclosed booking form.

We will be celebrating our 87th year as a Society and hope to attract many like minded Model Engineers to this event which has a strong bias towards Model Engineering, Traction Engines and Ground Level Railway running.

The railway track, which caters for both 7¼” and 5″ gauges, runs for approximately 1/3rd of a mile around the rally field.  The field is good for miniatures and a short road run is being arranged, together with some full size road steam engines.  The field will be open for access on Friday 18th September 2020.

We can offer camping facilities for caravans, motorhomes and tents.   Spaces are limited in number and will be allocated on a ‘first come, first served’ based against reservations made with this booking.  The local Public House is situated close to the rally field providing food and refreshment.

To comply with current regulations, all working steam models must have a current boiler certificate and insurance, which must be presented before steaming.  For road vehicles which will be moving around the rally field or taking part in the road runs, it is necessary to have third party Road Traffic Act Insurance cover.  Evidence of this cover will be required by the organisers. It is the club’s policy that locomotives hauling passenger trains shall operate with secondary couplings, or other means of stopping the locomotives, to prevent the risk of ‘runaways’.  It is recommended that visiting engines be similarly equipped.

It would be appreciated if you would complete the on line entry form and return by email before the end of June 2020.

We look forward to seeing you in September.

  1. Pass the word to your friends and I will send them an entry form!!

Yours sincerely

Andrew Matthews
